Newly refinished hardwood floor glowing under a fresh coat of finish in a Jacksonville home

Hardwood Floor Refinishing

A full sand and finish takes worn, scratched, or faded hardwood down to clean wood and builds it back up. The grain comes back, the color comes back, and the floor is protected again.

Overview

What hardwood floor refinishing means

Refinishing is the single best value in flooring. The wood under the scratches is the same wood that was installed — sanding and finishing brings the grain, the depth, and the protection back without tearing anything out.

It is our flagship service and the work Northeast Florida has called us for since 1945. Residential and commercial, hardwood only.

Signs your floor is ready

  • Deep scratches, scuffs, and traffic paths that no longer clean up
  • Dull, cloudy, or worn-through finish
  • Grey or dark spots where moisture has reached the wood
  • A stain color that dates the whole room
  • Boards that still feel solid underfoot but look tired

Scope

What's included

  • Full evaluation of species, thickness, and condition
  • Protection and prep of adjacent rooms and surfaces
  • Flat sanding through the grits with careful edge and corner work
  • Stain samples applied directly to your own floor
  • Finish coats with proper cure time between them
  • Final walkthrough of the completed floor with you

How It Works

The process, step by step

Straight answers before you commit — including what the work looks like inside your space.

  1. 01

    Free on-site estimate

We walk the space with you, look at the floor's condition, species, and scope, and answer your questions. Timeline and pricing are confirmed here, in person — never guessed over the phone.

  2. 02

    Careful prep and sanding

We protect adjacent rooms and surfaces, then sand with modern dust-containment equipment. Sanding creates dust; our prep and equipment keep it managed, and we go over exactly what that looks like in your home at the estimate.

  3. 03

    Stain and finish selection

We sample stains directly on your sanded floor so you see the real color in your own light, then agree on sheen and finish system before a single coat goes down.

  4. 04

    Finish and final walkthrough

Coats go on with cure time between them and rooms stay off-limits while the finish sets. We tell you up front how the space will be used during the job, then we walk the finished floor together.

Honest note on dust and disruption

Sanding a hardwood floor makes dust and takes rooms out of service for a stretch. Modern sanding equipment and careful prep keep it managed, and we walk through exactly what that means for your home — timeline, access, and pricing — at the free on-site estimate. Every floor is different, so we confirm the specifics in person rather than guessing up front.

Refinish vs. Replace

Why refinish instead of replace

If the wood is sound, tearing it out is almost never the right call. Refinishing uses what you already own and gives you a floor that looks new.

  • Restores the floor's original beauty

Under the scratches and wear is the same wood that was installed. Sanding and finishing brings the grain and depth back out.

  • Costs far less than new flooring

Refinishing reuses the material already in your home. For most floors it is a fraction of the cost of tearing out and replacing.

  • Protects your home's value

Well-kept hardwood is one of the features buyers notice first. A refinished floor reads as a maintained home.

  • Change the stain, change the room

Go lighter, go darker, go natural. The color of your floor sets the tone for everything else in the space.

  • Extends the floor's life for decades

A solid hardwood floor can be refinished multiple times. Each one buys the floor another long stretch of service.
